A flat heat press and a curved blank are a bad match, and no amount of technique fixes it. Pressure that is even across a T-shirt becomes a narrow contact line on a tumbler, so the design bonds in a stripe down the middle and fades towards the edges. Wrapping the blank in tape and rotating it through several presses is the workaround people try, and it produces visible seams almost every time.

Matching blanks to the machine
The mistake here is buying blanks first and a press afterwards. Capacity, diameter and whether the blank is straight-sided or tapered all determine whether a press can grip it evenly, and a skinny straight tumbler is not the same shape as a tapered one even at the same volume.
Straight-sided skinny tumblers are the most forgiving starting point. Glass blanks with bamboo lids look excellent and are less tolerant, because glass shows uneven contact more clearly than a powder-coated steel finish does. What these machines will not do
None of them press a flat garment. It sounds obvious written down, but people do buy a tumbler press expecting it to cover T-shirts as well, and it will not. Curved and flat are separate machines, and a workshop that does both owns both.
They also will not rescue a blank that is not coated for sublimation. The press supplies heat and even contact; the bond still depends on the blank having a polyester coating. A plain steel tumbler from a supermarket will come out exactly as blank as it went in.
Which one to start with
